FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The organization's (casa) mission is to influence our community to stand up to silence through advocacy, empowerment and social change to prevent and end domestic violence. Casa promotes social change through advocacy, community education, outreach and support for victims/survivors of intimate partner violence. Casa provides comprehensive services to empower survivors of intimate partner violence and their families with a safe supportive emergency shelter environment, rapid rehousing, a 24-hour crisis hot line, support groups, youth programs, substance abuse advocacy, information and referral program, justice advocacy, outreach to under-served populations, peacemakers programs to pre-schools, elementary and middle school, a very active volunteer program and a thrift shop.

Form 990

Form 990 part ix: functional expenses expenses related to program services reported as 85.57% for casa. Related entity (victoria's place, inc.) reports expenses related to program services at 100%. Financial statements for the two entities are reported on a consolidated basis. The combined expenses related to program services on a consolidated basis is 88%. In addition, volunteer hours allow us to reduce recorded expenses related to program services.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

(continued from part iii, line 4.a.) crisis hotline advocates answered over 4,600 calls. Casa works closely with the pinellas county sheriffs office child protection investigation division to increase the safety of adult and child victims of domestic violence and helps to reduce the number of out-of-home child placements due to domestic violence through the cpid (child protective investigation division program). Casa's substance abuse program recognizes the perilous interconnection between substance abuse and battering. Residential and non-residential services are provided for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Survivors may be multiply impacted by domestic violence and substance abuse, legal difficulties, or other social barriers to independence. Survivors participate in casa's community support groups or in local community based programs that help and support navigation in utilizing the civil and criminal justice systems, substance use treatment, and other individualized needs. Staff also assist survivors at the clerk of courts making application for injunctions for protections. Community-based weekly support groups and individual crisis counseling for survivors not in casa's shelter provide support to those in crisis. Casa provides presentations and workshops to numerous mediums, civic, fraternal, professional, religious, school, neighborhood, and other groups annually. Casa's community education program emphasizes "it takes a whole community to stop domestic violence." the peacemaker program provides holistic peace education to almost 2,500 preschoolers, elementary and middle school children in a wide variety of classrooms and schools throughout pinellas county, nurturing a sense of peace and justice during critical times in child development. Peacemaker also provides resources for teachers to continue the program in classrooms. Services are available to people within pinellas county and others in need, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, pregnancy, citizenship, religion, national origin, age, familial status, disability (physical or mental, including hiv status), military service or affiliation, veteran status, bankruptcy or bad debts, or genetic information. Casa works collectively to develop a coordinated community response to domestic violence by collaborating with other service providers, public agencies, planning groups and funding bodies to promote community education, prevention and awareness on the subject of domestic and sexual violence and human traffickings conducts on-going research and evaluation in the areas of domestic and sexual violence, and human trafficking to ensure a high quality of service to our program participants as described above.
