Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1 ORGANIZATION'S MOST SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES

Safe children coalition, inc. Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1945 committed to providing a diverse array of services to the most disadvantaged and at-risk youth and families in our community. Since 1997, scc has served as the contracted lead agency with the department of children and families to provide foster care, adoptions and related child welfare services in circuit 12, covering sarasota, manatee and desoto counties. Scc leads a network of community partners to deliver a comprehensive continuum of care for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. In the past year, scc served more than 8,350 children and families through foster care, adoption, prevention, and diversion programs. In fy25, scc helped over 170 youth find permanent adoptive homes. In addition to child welfare services, scc also provides an array of other social services including prevention, diversion, education, training, and personal development. Scc operates the only youth shelter in sarasota county for homeless, foster, and runaway youth aged 10-17 years. The youth shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is contracted through the florida network of youth and family services, inc. To provide voluntary care to children in need of services (cins) at no cost. A new, expanded shelter facility is currently under construction. Scc's hippy (home instruction for parents of preschool youngsters) program supports early childhood literacy for over 230 families each year. This home-based education model empowers parents of children ages 2-5 to prepare their children for school success, with over 18,900 books read annually. Scc's achievers program provides over 145 youth with college and career readiness, leadership development, cultural enrichment, and community service opportunities. The schoolhouse link program serves more than 750 homeless youth annually. This program provides support for unaccompanied youth facing unique challenges and also supports entire families by linking them with essential service providers and community resources.

Form 990, Part I, Line 6 Volunteers

Volunteers play a vital role in advancing safe children coalition's mission. They assist children in improving reading skills, tutor and mentor youth, support fundraising events, and help collect and organize clothing and school supplies for children in need. Volunteers also contribute their time and expertise by serving as board members and participating on advisory committees.
