First serve miami (fsm) is a community-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1974 and located in miami, florida. Its mission is to "empowering youth one serve at a time" with a combination of academic social emotional, and life skills enrichment activities, with a focus on tennis. Over the decades, fsm has positively impacted the lives of more than 50,000 young people across moore park, bryan park, and other community parks throughout south florida. Fsm's success is rooted in its strong partnerships, particularly with the city of miami's parks and recreation department. The organization also benefits from generous support from major sponsors such as the children's trust, the usta foundation and usta florida section, the garner foundation, williams island in aventura and the miami open. Additionally, fsm receives invaluable backing from influential south florida leaders including gerald moore, esq., manuel medina, alan rosenthal, esq., dr. John uribe, jeffrey binder, larry & cheryl smiht, walter leiber and the late fred stolle. With this support, fsm has developed and delivered high-impact programming for underserved youth ages 5 to 18 at moore park and bryan park. Since 1999, the ashe-buchholz tennis center at moore park has served as the primary location where young participants receive instruction in tennis, literacy, nutrition, social emotional, financial literacy and life skills. Fsm's curriculum also includes education and training on drug prevention, child safety awareness, gang awareness, teamwork, conflict resolution, and crisis de-escalation. In 2008, fsm launched its elite program: adopt-a-player, a college readiness and scholarship initiative. As of today, 58 out of 59 high school graduates from the program have earned full or partial scholarships to colleges and universities, including st. Thomas university, miami dade college, wingate university, vanderbilt university, university of texas, florida international university, and boston college. Expanding its impact even further, fsm partnered with the usta foundation and usta florida in september 2021 to launch the south florida youth tennis program (sfytp). This initiative brings tennis instruction into existing afterschool programs serving underserved communities throughout miami-dade and broward counties. Since its launch, sfytp has introduced over 2,500 youth-many experiencing the sport for the first time-to tennis across fifteen community parks.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1FIRST SERVE MIAMI (FSM) IS A COMMUNITY-BASED, 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOUNDED IN 1974 AND LOCATED IN MIAMI, FLORIDA.
