“Appropriate salaries for officers and key employees of senior friendship centers are determined by reviewing a compensation and benefits report prepared by the florida non-profit alliance. In this report, regional positions and salaries are compared based on operational size and annual budget to assist area nonprofits. We also look outside of non-profits as the market becomes more competitive. Ultimately, the ceo's salary is approved by the governing board.”
“The form 990 is posted on sfc's website and available upon request.”
“The governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are made available to the public upon request. Also, the governing documents and financial statements are posted on guidestar and the organization's website.”
“Volunteers provide many services to senior friendship centers that would otherwise require staffing. Volunteers assist with the congregate meal programs. Classes and bands (who provide entertainment to dance to) are led by volunteers in the senior centers, and they provide general program and administrative support. Volunteers also enable friendship centers to staff a thrift store in both our sarasota and venice locations.”

“The internal revenue service has determined that the center and foundation are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The center and foundation are nonprofit florida corporations and, therefore, are not subject to state income taxes. Donations to the center and foundation qualify as a charitable contribution. Under the income taxes topic of the fasb accounting standards codification, the center and foundation have reviewed and evaluated the relevant technical merits of each of its tax positions in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america for accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, and determined that there are no uncertain tax positions that would have a material impact on the combined financial statements.”
