(continued from part iii) the medical center employs approximately 2500 individuals, including 789 physicians and 694 nurses. During 2024, the medical center had 440,569 outpatient visits, 15,494 hospital admissions, 2,553 births, 55,453 emergency room visits, and 15,869 surgeries. Over the years, jupiter medical center has gained a reputation as a world-class medical facility, known for its excellent, compassionate care.

Endowment funds are held by Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, Inc. (a related organization). The funds are held to support healthcare services for those in greatest need and for future physical plant and equipment expenditures to expand services offered. The funds are intended to support the programs and mission of Jupiter Medical Center, Inc. and affiliates.

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 FIN 48 (ASC 740) footnote

JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER INC. IS INCLUDED IN CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. BELOW IS THE TEXT OF THE INCOME TAXES FOOTNOTE FROM THOSE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. The Internal Revenue Service has determined that the Hospital, Pavilion Insurance, the Foundation, JMCPG, and JHOS are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC). JMC Specialty Group, Inc. is a taxable corporation that files federal and Florida income tax returns. Income taxes related to JMC Specialty Group, Inc. is not material to Jupiter Health. Income earned in furtherance of Jupiter Health's tax-exempt purpose is exempt from federal and state income taxes. The IRC provides for taxation of unrelated business income under certain circumstances. Jupiter Health has no material unrelated business income; however, such status is subject to final determination upon examination of the related income tax returns by the appropriate taxing authority. Under ASC Subtopic 740, Income Taxes, Jupiter Health must recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is "more likely than not" that the tax position will be sustained on examination by the applicable taxing authorities based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefits recognized in the consolidated financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. ASC Subtopic 740-10, also provides guidance on derecognition, classification, interest and penalties on income taxes, and accounting in interim periods and requires increased disclosure. There were no uncertain tax positions identified as of September 30, 2024 and 2023. Tax returns filed by Jupiter Health are subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) up to three years from the date the return was filed. Jupiter Health recognizes interest and/or penalties related to income tax matters in income tax expense. Jupiter Health did not have any amounts accrued for interest and penalties at September 30, 2024 and 2023. Tax returns filed by Jupiter Health and its affiliated companies are no longer subject to examination for the years ended September 30, 2020 and prior. Jupiter Health has a 100% investment interest in an ambulatory surgery center at September 30, 2024 and 2023, which may be considered to operate in a for-profit manner. However, Jupiter Health believes, through its membership agreement, it has documentation to support the interest in this investment by the Hospital causing it to be related to its exempt purpose. As a result, Jupiter Health has not recorded income taxes payable or an income tax provision relating to the income from this investment. There are no significant deferred income tax assets or liabilities.
