Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Board designated or quasi-endowment funds are to be held to generate unrestricted income for the jacksonville zoo and gardens and to be held as emergency funds as part of the business continuity plan.

PART X, LINE 2:

The society has received a tax determination letter dated may 31, 1971, updated on june 21, 2002, from the internal revenue service specifying that the society is generally exempt from federal income tax under section 501(a) of the internal revenue code as an organization described in section 501(c)(3). As such, the society is not taxed on income related to its exempt purposes. The society applies generally accepted accounting principles related to income tax uncertainties. The society has determined that there were no unrecognized tax benefits for the years ended september 30, 2024 and 2023. The society files tax returns in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction. Tax years that remain subject to examination by major tax jurisdictions are 2021 and forward.
