“Special consideration - embezzlement of funds: in november of 2021, the organization became aware of what appears to be a diversion of cash by jennifer tirado, former director of finance and was she was immediately terminated as a result. The board of directors hired an external firm to conduct an investigation. A report on their findings was submitted to the board on october 17, 2022. There was no evidence of collusion within the organization noted by the investigator. During the period beginning july 1, 2019, through december 31, 2021, there were a number of questionable transactions totalling $245,465. The matter was turned over to the authorities for investigation. She was arrested on july 25, 2023, and she is currently facing charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud. After a full review of finance procedures following issuance of the investigatory report, the organization implemented additional oversight and controls on all financial transactions to prevent possible future misconduct. In october and november 2022, the organization received insurance proceeds of $250,465 representing the full amount that was reported as diverted plus an expense reimbursement for the investigatory report, covered under the policy. Special consideration - unaudited financial information: the financial information used to prepare this form 990 and accompanying schedules was unaudited at the time of filing. As such, there may be material differences between the financial information contained herein and that which will be reported when the audited financial statements are issued.”
