AN ADDITIONAL 19 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED IN IN-HOME SUPPORT SERVICES (IHSS) FOR A TOTAL OF 6,650 DAYS. IN-HOME SUPPORT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN THE CLIENT'S OWN HOME RATHER THAN IN HOMES OWNED OR LEASED BY THE ARC AND ARE TYPICALLY STAFFED WHENEVER ANYONE IS HOME. LASTLY, 21 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED IN SUPPORTED INDEPENDENT LIVING (SIL) FOR A TOTAL OF 21,520 UNITS OF SERVICE. SUPPORTED LIVING SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN THE INDIVIDUAL'S OWN HOME AND ARE NOT STAFFED WHENEVER ANYONE IS HOME. TYPICALLY STAFF COME FOR AN HOUR OR TWO EACH DAY TO HELP WITH SPECIFIED TASKS SUCH AS BILL PAYING, CLEANING, ETC. THE GOAL OF ALL RESIDENTIAL SERVICES IS TO TEACH THE INDIVIDUAL SELF-CARE, DAILY LIVING, AND SELF-MANAGEMENT SKILLS IN ORDER TO BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT AND SELF-SUFFICIENT. EACH PERSON HAS AN INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN WITH GOALS AND OBJECTIVES SPECIFIC TO HIS OR HER ABILITIES AND DESIRES TO LEARN. OBJECTIVE DATA IS TAKEN ON TRAINING PROGRAMS RELATED TO THESE PLANS, REGULAR REPORTS ARE MADE TO OVERSIGHT AGENTS, AND PLANS ARE UPDATED AS THE PERSON LEARNS SKILLS AND INDICATES NEW PREFERENCES.

THEY ARE SUB-DIVIDED INTO THE LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM AND THE ELDER PROGRAM. A TOTAL OF 79 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN BOTH PROGRAMS. LIFE SKILLS IS PRIMARILY FOR MORE SEVERELY INTELLECTUALLY/DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED PERSONS AND EMPHASIZES SELF-CARE AND DAILY LIVING SKILLS TRAINING AS WELL AS PROGRAM OF ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES. BOTH LIFE SKILLS AND ELDER PROGRAMS OPERATE FOR 6 HOURS EACH WEEK DAY AND INDIVIDUALS ARE TRANSPORTED TO THE MAIN FACILITY FIVE DAYS A WEEK FROM THEIR HOMES AND RETURNED AT THE END OF THE DAY. FIFTY-ONE PEOPLE ATTENDED THE LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM AND STAFF PROVIDED 29,714 HOURS OF SERVICE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE ELDER PROGRAM SERVES INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE AGE 55 AND ABOVE AND WHO DO NOT DESIRE TO WORK ANY LONGER. THE PROGRAM EMPHASIZES EXERCISE, PROPER NUTRITION, ARTS AND CRAFTS, AND SOCIALIZATION ACTVITIES. THERE IS AN OVERLAY OF NURSING SERVICES TO EVALUATE AND TRACK ANY DEVELOPING HEALTH-RELATED ISSUES. FORTY-FIVE PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE ELDER PROGRAM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND THE ARC PROVIDED 28,229 HOURS OF SERVICE. ALSO, FOURTEEN INDIVIDUALS WERE PROVIDED SERVICES STAFFED AT A ONE TO ONE STAFF RATIO IN A VARIETY OF DAY PROGRAMS USING 2,510 HOURS OF SERVICE.

THE RECYCLING PROGRAM INCLUDES SECURE DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION AND BALING WITH SALE OF THE MATERIAL TO WHOLESALE PAPER DEALERS, COLLECTION AND SORTING OF ALUMINUM PRODUCTS AND SALE TO WHOLESALE DEALERS, AS WELL COLLECTION AND SORTING OF PLASTIC PRODUCTS. IN ADDITION THE RECYCLING PROGRAM DISASSEMBLES AND RECYCLES COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SMALL HOUSEHOLD AND OFFICE MACHINES AND APPLIANCES. AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR, THIS PROGRAM EMPLOYED 80 PEOPLE. ADDITIONALLY, BIOTECH PACKAGING AND OTHER ASSEMBLY/PACKAGING WORK WAS PERFORMED BY 25 PEOPLE IN THE PRODUCTION PROGRAM. THE RECYCLING AND PRODUCTION PROGRAMS WERE FURTHER DEFINED AND DEVIDED NEAR THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR, BUT IN TOTAL, THE ARC PROVIDED 76,825 HOURS OF SERVICE FOR BOTH PROGRAMS. ALSO, FIVE PEOPLE WORKED ON JANITORIAL CREWS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. FINALLY, DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, 9 PEOPLE WERE PLACED AND SUPPORTED IN PRIVATE BUSINESS JOBS THROUGH THE ARC'S SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM USING A TOTAL OF 2,045 QUARTER HOURS. THE GOAL OF THESE WORK AND CONTRACTS PROGRAMS IS THE EMPLOYMENT OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WHO WOULD HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME FINDING AND KEEPING EMPLOYMENT IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.
