FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

City rescue mission, inc. (the organization), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1946, exists to transform the lives of the homeless and needy, serving them through the love and compassion of jesus christ. The organization provides a continuum of care beginning with emergency services (hot meals, clean clothing and safe shelter) to homeless and addicted and needy individuals in jacksonville and the surrounding northeast florida communities. For those needing addiction recovery, the organization provides a long term residential, biblically based recovery program (lifebuilders). Individuals entering lifebuilders are offered biblical instruction, counseling including relapse prevention and computer literacy classes as well as on-site medical, dental and chiropractic care. In addition to lifebuilders, the organization provides workforce development through job training/placement services and educational opportunities. Beginning in fiscal year 2018, the organization began homes of hope offering low cost transitional housing to graduates of lifebuilders and other similar programs. The organization is supported by individuals, churches, organizations, sponsorships, grants, businesses and community events. The organization is also supported by two social enterprises, a thrift store and homes of hope.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Workforce development: offers opportunities to equip and prepare students in the city rescue mission lifebuilders program with the knowledge and resources they need to live a fulfilling and independent life. There are three specific areas of focus. The training phase focuses on developing and enhancing skills that will help with their return to independent living and to be successful in the workplace and at home. Students have the opportunity to obtain job specific certifications and training. Guest speakers conduct workshops providing direction on vocational job training as well as other educational programs. The servant leadership phase is designed to give students the opportunity to receive additional practical application of training and implementation of skills learned. In the transitional phase classes are designed to give students valuable information and referral resources. Homes of hope - during fye 2018 the organization launched a transitional housing opportunity called homes of hope with 14 newly renovated houses. Residents are graduates of city rescue mission's lifebuilders or other similar recovery program. Each resident must execute a monthly housing agreement acknowledging they will adhere to rules and conditions.
