Who we are the vincent obioma ohaju memorial (voom) foundation was established to raise standard of care and create a sustainable medical program in nigeria. Voom foundation was born from the vision of dr. Vincent ohaju, chief of surgery & medical director for trauma services at chi st. Joseph health in bryan, texas. Originally from the town of ihitte, in south eastern nigeria, dr. Ohaju had personally witnessed the effects of inadequate available medical care on friends and family. His father, vincent obioma ohaju passed away in 1983 at the age of 56 due to complications from pulmonary aspiration. A simple procedure such as bronchosocopy readily available in even the smallest hospital in the united states could have prevented his demise. It was a close and personal reminder to dr. Each mission includes open heart surgeries,training of medical professionals, provision of supplies and equipment. We have shipped multiple 40-ft containers of medical supplies and equipment for use at the enugu university of nigeria teaching hospital.”

TODAY, THE VOOM FOUNDATION PROVIDES INDEPENDENT, IMPARTIAL ASSISTANCE IN NIGERIA (AND ITS SURROUNDING AREAS) TO PEOPLE WHOSE SURVIVAL IS THREATENED BY VIOLENCE, NEGLECT, OR CATASTROPHE, PRIMARILY DUE TO ARMED CONFLICT, EPIDEMIC, MALNUTRITION, EXCLUSION FROM HEALTH CARE OR NATURAL DISASTERS. THE VOOM FOUNDATION PROVIDES INDEPENDENT, IMPARTIAL ASSISTANCE TO THOSE MOST IN NEED. THE VOOM FOUNDATION ALSO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT TO BRING ATTENTION TO NEGLECTED CRISES, CHALLENGE INADEQUACIES OR ABUSE OF THE AID SYSTEM, AND TO ADVOCATE FOR IMPROVED MEDICAL TREATMENTS AND PROTOCOLS. THE VINCENT OBIOMA OHAJU MEMORIAL (VOOM) FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED TO RAISE THE STANDARD OF CARE AND CREATE SUSTAINABLE MEDICAL EDUCATION IN NIGERIA. THE VOOM FOUNDATION WAS BORN FROM THE VISION OF DR. VINCENT OHAJU. ORIGINALLY FROM THE TOWN OF IHITTE, IN SOUTH EASTERN NIGERIA. DR. OHAJU HAD PERSONALLY WITNESSED THE EFFECTS FROM LACK OF AVAILABLE MEDICAL CARE ON FRIENDS AND FAMILY, INCLUDING THE LOSS OF HIS FATHER. VINCENT OBIOMA OHAJU PASSED AWAY IN 1983 AT THE AGE OF 56 DUE TO COMPLICATIONS FROM ASPIRATION OF A PIECE OF MEAT, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE CORRECTED WITH A SIMPLE PROCEDURE IN EVEN THE SMALLEST HOSPITAL IN THE UNITED STATES. IT WAS A CLOSE AND PERSONAL REMINDER TO DR. OHAJU THAT OVER 95% OF THE PEOPLE IN NIGERIA LIVE WITHOUT ESSENTIAL MEDICAL SERVICES. DR. OHAJU BELIEVES THOSE IN A POSITION TO CHANGE THAT SITUATION HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO TRY. |
