The organizations mission is to encourage economic development and to improve the quality of life in the surrounding ten county area through conservation and wise use of the area's resources. The concept of the council is to get grass roots input to 1) identify problems, plan, and concerns involving the resources of the area, and 2) propose, plan, and carry out projects to address identified problems, needs and concerns involving the resources of the area. Once a project is adopted for work, the council plays the role of identifying and bringing together available sources of assistance to plan and implement the project.

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | NRCS Outreach Grant: The purpose of the grant was to assist the Council in hosting outreach programs to educate farmers in Southeast Georgia on a variety of subjects such as conservation tillage, water conservation, and erosion control as well as outreach to underserved producers such as women, minorities, new farmers as well as established farmers who are interested in new technology and research.The program developed three cover crop field plots using a mixture of traditional winter cover plants mixed with tubular plants to penetrate the hardpan and allow water infiltration and deeper root penetration to reduce runoff, conserve moisture and reduce erosion. Plots were established on a no-till field, a conventional field and on an annual grazing field.Three workshops were held, one at each site to demonstrate the results.Direct service was provided to 90 farmers and 15 state and federal agriculture professionals who can provide the results to more producers across the state. |
