THE OBJECTIVES OF THE GOTA ARE TO ADVANCE THE PRACTICE OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE HEALTH OF THE PUBLIC IN ITS MEDICAL, COMMUNITY, AND EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH RESEARCH, EDUCATION, ACTION, SERVICE, AND MAINTENANCE OF STANDARDS. THE GOTA WILL ALSO ENGAGE IN OTHER ACTIVITIES TO FURTHER DISSEMINATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRACTICE OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY.GOTA HAD 350 MEMBERS IN 2015 WHICH INCLUDED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS (OT), OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANTS (OTA) AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY STUDENTS.THE GOTA OFFERED A FALL CONFERENCE IN SEPTEMBER WITH UP TO 12 CONTACT HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR 150 OTS, OTAS, AND STUDENTS TO HELP THOSE IN THE PROFESSION MEET THEIR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GEORGIA LICENSURE.THE STUDENTS ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE COURSES AND ALSO PARTICIPATED BY PROVIDING POSTER PRESENTATIONS ON RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN OT. ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2015, THE GEORGIA OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZED THREE INDIVIDUALS FOR THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND SERVICE IN THE FIELD OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY.THE GOTA ALSO WORKED WITH OUTSIDE CONTINUING EDUCATION PROVIDERS TO APPROVE 118 ADDITIONAL OT COURSES OUTSIDE OF THE FALL CONFERENCE AND REGIONAL COURSE OFFERINGS OF THE GOTA.
