“The members of sasfaa elect six (6) officers (president, past-president, president-elect, vice-president, secretary and treasurer). The other nine (9) members of the board are voting members as a result of serving as the state president of their state financial aid association. The board does not elect anyone who has a voting privilege.”

“The annual federal tax return (form 990) is reviewed by the treasurer, president and budget/finance chair for completeness and accuracy, prior to signing and filing with the irs.”

“Under sasfaa's conflict of interest policy, any board member or committee chair must disclose the existence of a financial interest (as defined in the policy) and be given the opportunity to disclose all material facts to the board. After disclosure, the interested person will be dismissed (not allowed to deliberate or vote on the issue) and the remaining board will determine if a conflict exists for further investigation and discussion. If so, the board chair will appoint a disinterested person or committee to investigate and determine any alternatives. If an alternative is not reasonably possible, the board will determine, by majority vote, whether the transaction is fair, reasonable and in the best interest of the organization. If the board has reasonable cause to believe that a member has failed to disclose possible conflicts, it shall inform the member and provide an opportunity for explanation. If determined that an actual conflict exists and it was not disclosed properly, the board will take appropriate corrective action.”

Financial statements are also posted on the website but are available to members only. Non-members can obtain a copy of the financial statements by written request of the organization.”

“The southern association of student financial aid administrators (sasfaa) is an organization dedicated to assisting students, parents, institutions and agencies with the dissemination of information related to the distribution of financial aid. We represent nine southern states - alabama, florida, georgia, kentucky, mississippi, north carolina, south carolina, tennessee and virginia.”

“To promote the professional preparation, effectiveness and association of student financial aid administrators in post-secondary educational institutions, government agencies, and foundation and administrators of education funding programs in lending institutions, and other administrators of student financial aid programs. To assist educational institutions, foundations, government agencies, lending institutions and private and community organizations in promoting and developing effective programs pertinent to student financial aid. To facilitate communication between educational institutions and sponsors of student aid funds through an exchange of ideas, information and experiences. To promote such systematic studies, cooperative experiences, conferences and other related activities necessary to fulfill the above stated purposes. Approximately 1,700 people are benefited annually by organizational services and functions during the year.”
