Public service for children and adults through life development center

- to enhance the lives of adults and youth of the neighborhood and area residents by stimulating interest, increasing awareness and knowledge throughout the entire community of african american artists, educators, and musicians from asheville whose cultural contributions to the community historically overlooked. - to support and encourage economically disadvantaged and underprivileged students and families by strengthening cultural awareness, health, learning, well-being and social equity in a diverse population- changing lives, inspiring minds, and building a better community

DELTA HOUSE BELIEVES THAT MEANINGFUL CHANGE IS NECESSARY WHEN THERE ARE CHALLENGES OR OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN COMMUNITIES THAT WILL IMPROVE THE LIVES OF OTHERS. SOME OF THE COMMUNITY ISSUES ARE CLOSING ACHIEVEMENT GAP, BULLYING, ALCOHOL, DRUGS, OPIOIDS, AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE; MENTAL HEALTH CRISES; SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING, POVERTY, AND GAMBLING. DELTA HOUSE WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH MEANINGFUL HANDS-ON LEARNING ACTIVITIES THAT ENCOURAGED THEM TO CHANGE THEIR LIVES BY IMPROVING THEIR GRADES, DECREASING THE NUMBER OF NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR INCIDENCES, IMPROVING SCHOOL ATTENDANCE, AND IMPROVING THEIR SOCIAL SKILLS. THE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO USE THEIR CREATIVE TALENTS BY DESIGNING APRONS, CREATING ACRYLIC PAINTINGS, SEWING PILLOWS, TAKING FIELD TRIPS, MAKING HEALTHY SNACKS, AND PLAYING IN THE JAZZ BAND. THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN POSITIVE INTERVENTION/PREVENTION AND AWARENESS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS ALCOHOL, DRUGS, OPIOIDS, AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE; MENTAL HEALTH CRISES, GAMBLING AND RESTORATIVE PRACTICES WHILE WORKING WITH POSITIVE ROLE MODELS.DELTA HOUSE WAS ABLE TO HELP STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE BASED ON OUR MISSION, VISION, AND GOALS OF THE PROGRAM. THE FOLLOWING ARE RESULTS ACHIEVED BY SPRING 20181. BY THESPRING OF 2018, 88% OF REGULAR PARTICIPATING STUDENTS COMPLETED THEIR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS AFTER SCHOOL AND TURNED THEM IN TO THEIR TEACHERS2. 85% OF STUDENTS PASSED TO THE NEXT GRADE LEVEL IN THE SPRING OF 2018 3. 84% OF TEACHERS COMPLETED SURVEYS REPORTED STUDENTS IMPROVED HOMEWORK, ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIORS4. 90% OF STUDENTS CHOSE A HOMEWORK CENTER TO COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK5. 95% OF PARTICIPATING STUDENTS' PARENTS ATTEND WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, FAMILY NIGHTS AND CULTURAL EVENTS BY SPRING OF 20186. 96% OF REGULAR PARTICIPATING STUDENTS EXHIBITED OR PERFORMED WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED THROUGH THE ARTS AND OTHER ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES BY SPRING OF 20187. 88% OF REGULAR PARTICIPATING STUDENTS PASSED THE NC STATE END-OF - GRADE TEST BY THE SPRING OF 20188. 90% OF PARTICIPATING STUDENTS IMPROVED ACADEMICALLY, CREATIVELY, CULTURALLY, EMOTIONALLY, AND SOCIALLY BY ENGAGING IN POSITIVE INTERVENTION/PREVENTION AND AWARENESS ACTIVITIES THAT REDUCED RISKY BEHAVIORS, IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH THE ARTS$0$53,495
