Activity 2

Excellence in Action-This program uses evidence-based criteria to identify best educational practices in Wake County public schools. Once best practices were confirmed, the Partnership scheduled school site visits for small groups of business leaders and elected officials to these selected schools to engage with school administrators, teachers and students to better understand "what's working in the classroom(s)." The benefit is to generate resource and community support to replicate these practices throughout Wake County public schools. 2012-2013 school sites included Durant Road Middle (flipped classrooms), Panther Creek High (Smart Lunch), Sanderson High (dropout prevention), and Jefferys Grove (language immersion).

Activity 3

Pieces of Gold-The March 13, 2013 performing arts extravaganza, Pieces of Gold, featured 900 students from 30 schools throughout the Wake County Public School System performing to an audience of parents, business leaders, educators and elected officials at Memorial Auditorium (Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts). Pieces of Gold highlights the importance of arts education in developing 21st Century skills (innovation, collaboration, communication, etc.) in our students. Additionally, all 12 municipalities in Wake County declared March 10-16, 2013 "Celebrate the Arts in Our Schools Week."
