“Legal advocacy: gateway provides assistance to victims of domestic violence who seek temporary protective orders (tpo's) in hall county, georgia. In 2013, gateway legal advocates assisted with 115 tpo's and 175 second hearings and other hearings. Gateway also provides attorneys for victims who cannot afford one, and in 2013 gateway provided legal representation for 69 hearings. Community outreach & education: gateway offers training for criminal justice and social service agencies, civic organizations, churches, schools, colleges, and other groups in the dynamics of abuse, needs of battered women and their children, as well as the services available at gateway. In 2013, gateway staff spoke to 61 groups. 3,572 individuals attended these sessions. Another 301 people participated in 16 in-service training sessions.”

“The organization began accounting for donated merchandise for the thrift stores during 2013 by performing a physical count at year-end and reporting the inventory as an asset. In addition, temporarily restricted net assets were not reported correctly in prior years and this was corrected during 2013. Depreciation had previously been computed using accelerated methods and statutory (tax) lives rather than the straight-line method over the estimated useful lives of assets, as required by gaap. This resulted in a prior period adjustment to recompute depreciation under gaap methods.”
