Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

For nearly 50 years, the latin american association (laa) has grown to become the region's leading agency representing georgia's latino issues. Laa has worked to empower georgia's latino communities, particularly those with low-incomes, limited english proficiency, and risk of homelessness, but does not discriminate in our service provision. The laa offers a targeted menu of direct services that helps latino individuals assimilate and become contributing members of georgia's community. The laa assists 44,000 clients a year in sorting through available options for getting their needs met in a language they understand and in an environment that is culturally responsive to them. The laa uses a team of bilingual case managers to meet with each client to determine their goals for increasing well-being, long-term stability. Laa staff directly provide services or connect clients to needed resources, such as food, shelter, clothing, case management, & domestic violence mitigation. Once a client has their basic needs met, the laa offers a variety of economic programs, including quarterly job fairs, resume review, job training for specific industries, and a latina entrepreneurial program, to bring the client to a level of financial security. Depending on the client's needs, the laa continues to provide assistance in youth mentoring and immigration services. The full scope of services that the laa provides pulls the latino community toward social equity by ensuring financial stability and opening doors for future success. Laa services are free or reduced fees for clients and the laa offers subsidized legal fees thanks to generous donors. The covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis impacted georgia's latino families dramatically. The latino community faced a crisis of basic needs in 2020. The laa played a critical role in educating the community during the covid-19 pandemic and informing families of the resources and services available including weekly covid-19 vaccinations at the laa offices. Although covid-19 affected in-person events, the laa hosted various virtual events in 2020 exceeding each goal. The laa provided over 752,000 in rental assistance to 730 household and 3,589 individuals. The laa re- opened a food pantry where families in need can stock their pantry each week. Additionally, the laa provided food for over 10,000 families during food distribution drives. Despite the pandemic, the laa services and programs continued serving the community safely and were needed more than ever. The laa saw an uptick in many services for immigration legal services with 360 new client consultations, 1,000 adults enrolling in english-as-a-second-language classes, 9,300 students attending the virtual latino youth leadership conference, over 300 students and parents participating in pathway to college workshops, and more than 600 individuals attending job fairs.
