Mission
The association serves and supports those with visual needs in south carolina and surrounding areas.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- In 2006 the association in collaboration with the sc commission for the blind began a computer training program for legally blind individuals to learn either jaws or zoomtext assistive technology. Graduates have learned to type ten words per minute, are able to search the internet and can send graduates. Thirty participated in the program during the current fiscal year.
- Activity 3
- In 2010 the association introduced the refocus program to provide eye screenings/exams, eye glasses and follow up care to the medically indigent in outreach clinic settings. Twenty seven clients of the clinics are examined by a licensed optometrist and an on-site optician measures for glasses which are delivered two weeks later. Ophthalmologists see those in need of follow up care pro bono at their offices.
