The organization promotes, protects and positively impacts its member businesses and the grand strand economy through a variety of activities and programs, including advocacy of public policy, tourism promotion, destination advertising, destination branding, business promotion, networking, leadership development, business training, convention/meeting sales, research, business services, job creation and other activities related to business and economic development, as identified in its organizational mission statement.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

“The chamber is a nonprofit chamber as described in section 501(c)(6) of the united states internal revenue code and is exempt from federal and state income taxes. As such, only unrelated business income is subject to income tax. The chamber is not classified as a private foundation. The chamber records income taxes in accordance with financial accounting standards board (fasb) accounting standards codification (asc) 740, income taxes. That guidance provides that a tax benefit from an uncertain tax position may be recognized when it is more-likely-than-not that the position will be sustained upon examination, including resolutions of any related appeals or litigation processes, based on the technical merits. Income tax positions must meet a more-likely-than-not recognition threshold at the effective date to be recognized upon the adoption of the guidance and in subsequent periods. The chamber believes it has no uncertain tax positions as of december 31, 2024, and accordingly, no liability has been accrued.”
