Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Splash believes that every child should have clean water, clean hands and clean toilets. We implement clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs for children living in urban poverty in order to improve their long-term health and development. Since 2007, we have reached 400,000 children through over 1,600 projects, across eight countries in Asia and Africa.

Splash delivers water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and menstrual health programs for kids in urban poverty. We work in some of the largest, low resource cities in Asia and Africa to ensure that children thrive and reach their full potential. Since 2007, Splash has complete 1,779 projects across eight countries, benefiting more than 435,000 children.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

“The 990 is prepared by a contracted CPA and is reviewed carefully by Splash's Director of Finance. A complete draft is then provided to the Board Treasurer and the rest of the Splash Board of Director's Finance Committee to review. The draft is then provided to the Executive Director and the full Board of Directors for review prior to filing. Any and all questions and comments are addressed by the Splash Director of Finance who engages additional experts if necessary.”

“On an annual basis, all Splash officers and directors are required to review the Organization's conflict of interest policy and indicate their compliance in writing. If any potential conflict of interest is raised, in fact or appearance, the Board of Directors will ask any interested persons to recuse themselves from any discussion or vote before determining its response. The Board of Directors reserves the right to disallow any transactions or arrangements by a majority vote of the disinterested directors.”

“The Board of Directors reviews the Executive Director's compensation each year in executive session. The Executive Director is recused from these sessions so that none of the members involved in the determination of compensation have a conflict of interest. The directors consider salaries of executives with similar responsibilities and in similar sized organizations as well as the financial needs of Splash before determining salary each year. The deliberation and decision are documented in the minutes of the executive session contemporaneously. The Executive Director and the management team use compensation reports and comparability data in determining salaries of other staff.”

Customized for each country and project site, this program includes installing water filtration systems, increasing water storage, providing drinking and handwashing stations, conducting hygiene education through training teachers and facilitating student hygiene clubs, and rehabilitating or constructing new sanitation facilities. At every new site, Splash helps ensure sustainability through training, provision of spare parts, and developing local supply chains.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Sub-Saharan Africa: Splash works in Ethiopia, the second largest country by population in Africa. By the end of 2018, Splash had reached over 78,000 children in Addis Ababa, the nation's capital, through our holistic WASH program. Customized for each country and project site, this program includes installing water filtration systems, increasing water storage, providing drinking and handwashing stations, conducting hygiene education through training teachers and facilitating student hygiene clubs, and rehabilitating or constructing new sanitation facilities. At every new site, Splash helps ensure sustainability through training, provision of spare parts, and developing local supply chains. We work closely with the Addis Ababa Education Bureau, as well as the municipal agencies for health, finance, construction, and water and sewage.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0East Asia and Pacific: Splash ensured clean water for 179,858 children daily in Cambodia, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. At the beginning of 2018, Splash reached our ten-year goal of ensuring that every orphanage in China has clean, safe water. This project serves 1,081 orphanages across 32 provinces and benefits approximately 190,000 children, adults, and elderly at China's social welfare institutions. In 2018, we worked to refine our service and maintenance networks, as we move to transition the long-term responsibility of ensuring clean water for China's most vulnerable populations to local actors. In Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, Splash facilitated ongoing service and maintenance visits to keep clean water flowing at the schools, shelters, and orphanages we serve.
