November 22, 2024, the 12th edition of the Gershowitz Conference on Media and Democratic Governance themed:"Autocracy and Democracy: The coalition of the left with the centrist parties successfully blocked Marine Le Pen's right- wing surge in the 2024 legislative elections in France while in the United Kingdom, the Labor Party easily won a landslide parliamentary election, and the Conservative Party made history by electing the first black woman of Nigerian roots, Kemi Badenoch, as party leader. The U.S. election has global implications, with the probability it will affect other economies, foreign conflicts, media, and personal freedoms. Global prospects for peace (or war) are certainly in the horizon with the stalemate in Russia's war against Ukraine. The wars in Ukraine and Palestine highlight threats to global stability with profound implications for international alliances, peace, and development. Africa's role in the era of evolving great power competition, the digital revolution, and relationship-building engagements are crucial because of the continent's multiple crises including severe drought, climate change and COVID-19 impact, and food insecurity. The conference provided a platform for a forward-looking discussion on ongoing conflicts, building Africa-centric partnerships and engaging in important conversations on Africa's role in the global energy transition, the consequences of changing geopolitical alignments for African nations, and the future of artificial intelligence on the continent. How will African nations cooperate, balance existing relationships, or strike out on their own as the world becomes more multipolar and faces disruptive technological changes?$0$2,601

The U.S. election has global implications, with the probability it will affect other economies, foreign conflicts, media, and personal freedoms. Global prospects for peace (or war) are certainly in the horizon with the stalemate in Russia's war against Ukraine. The wars in Ukraine and Palestine highlight threats to global stability with profound implications for international alliances, peace, and development. Africa's role in the era of evolving great power competition, the digital revolution, and relationship-building engagements are crucial because of the continent's multiple crises including severe drought, climate change and COVID-19 impact, and food insecurity. The conference provided a platform for a forward-looking discussion on ongoing conflicts, building Africa-centric partnerships and engaging in important conversations on Africa's role in the global energy transition, the consequences of changing geopolitical alignments for African nations, and the future of artificial intelligence on the continent. How will African nations cooperate, balance existing relationships, or strike out on their own as the world becomes more multipolar and faces disruptive technological changes?
