“In january 2017, lnf equiped a new full day classroom (project 3) in the slum. This full day program is open to children who have attended the 2 hour program of project 1 and progressed to beginning reading and writing in hindi. Children who, in the past collected trash all day to provide additional income to their families, are now in the classroom all day. This changes the mentality of the parents to future thinking for their children. Children in the two hour classes are motivated to quickly improve their studies so they can graduate to the full day class. One child at a time is carving out a new future. Parents and grandparents have been kept in a state of poverty because they could not read or write, these children are the first generation to come out of that lack and will become leaders in their families. Children in the project 3 program also have access to a new computer lab created in 2017 to provide instruction in how to use a computer and how to write documents. In project 2 one of the preschool classes was reformatted to become an advanced class for students we had progressed to a pre-reading level. A tuition class has been created in the early evenings for older children. A teacher was located and the class commenced in april 2018. Two dynamic christmas programs, including all three projects, were presented with a positive response from both parents and the community. The parents are growing in their understanding of the need to make sure their children receive education. Our program is very well received because we have very good, loving, caring teachers, an excellent curriculum, and we offer a free nutritious meal each day as well as two cookies each day that provide needed vitamins and minerals for each child. The organization is able to offer a free nutritious meal to the children each day. In 2017, the meal program was able to start offering nutrition biscuits (cookies) especially designed by doctors in america that fill in the nutritional needs of each child. The children love the taste and they are very responsive to the biscuits with greater abilities to sit still, pay attention, and focus resulting in a higher retention of information. The organization's programs regularly reached about 60-80 children in project 1 & 2 and about 40-60 children in project 3 on average. Due to the transient nature of the area, most families are not permanently settled. In 2017, 222 children came through the organization's programs, received care and training for a season.”
