“ASCC is exempt from federal income taxes under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Under the Code, however, income from certain activities not related to the organizations tax-exempt purpose may be subject to taxation as unrelated business income. The organization had no income from unrelated business activities in 2024-25 and was, therefore, not required to file Federal Form 990-T (Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return). The organization believes that it has appropriate support for all tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements.”
“ASCC follows current U.S. GAAP standards relating to endowments. Under these standards, the portion of a donor-restricted endowment that is classified as permanently restricted net assets is not reduced by losses on the investments of the fund. Also in accordance with the standard, accumulated investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated for use. Since its endowment is held by the Community Foundation of WNC, ASCC will make any appropriations when it is notified by the Foundation that an annual distribution is available. ASCCs endowment is compliant with all aspects of UPMIFA.”

These services were provided in the form of individual counseling sessions, couples counseling sessions, group counseling sessions, and mental health check-ins at community partner sites. Approximately 74% of our new clients were uninsured and, of those reporting, 49% of our clients made $25,000 or less per year. Counseling was provided on a sliding-scale fee basis dependent upon annual income and 91% of our counseling visits were provided for $25 or less, with no one turned away due to inability to pay. Due to the impact of Hurricane Helene, we waived all client fees from October 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025. We served our clients with a hybrid of both in-person and virtual therapy sessions utilizing a team of 25 licensed therapists who offer individual, couples, family, and group counseling to address issues including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, addiction |

Over the past year we expanded our Help the Helpers initiative to provide services to the staff of four direct service organizations working with vulnerable populations. |

ASCC therapists use the Global Assessment of Functioning scale pre- and post-treatment to evaluate improvement in behavioral health issues. During FY2025, of the clients who were seen at least 3 times, 83.15% showed improvement via their GAF scores. During FY 2025, we administered a client survey to measure client satisfaction with our counseling services. Of the client surveys collected during the 2025 fiscal year, 90% of participants selected Strongly Agree and 10% of participants selected Agree when reporting improvement in managing daily activities as a result of therapy through ASCC. |
