“Investor forum (cont'd): a primary and immediate goal of the conference is to showcase early-stage life science companies to investors and corporate partners who may be interested in funding their next phase of development. Since the investor forum began in 1999, over 190 companies have presented at sebio and 150 have participated in the early/stage program, which provides companies with onsite mentoring from expert advisory panels. Past presenting companies have gone on to raise more than 2.5 billion in public and private fundings since their presentations at the investor forum. In addition, the conference offers multiple educational sessions relevant to emerging life science companies. A long term goal of the conference is to strengthen and grow the regional life science industry by encouraging investment in and partnerships with southeast-based companies.”

“Bio/plan competition (cont'd): the mentoring teams are made up of 3-4 professionals from active venture funds or angel groups, experienced life science entrepreneurs and managers, and service providers with relevant start-up expertise. Four finalists are selected to present their opportunities at the annual sebio investor forum (described above) and one winner is selected. Each finalist is awarded 2-3 private meetings (travel support included) with regional and national investors to further promote their opportunity or a trip to the sebio investor forum the following year. As of 2013, 56 technology opportunities and their associated principals have received mentoring through the bio/plan program.”
