Community outreach community outreach is a critical component to the mission of novant health. The healthcare system provides hundreds of programs that serve patients, neighbors, and some of the communities' most vulnerable citizens. Novant also provides financial assistance (i.e., charity care) for its qualified uninsured patients, catastrophic settlements and long-term payment plans to medically indigent patients, services to patients with medicare, medicaid, and other government medical program coverage (reimbursed at less than cost), community health education, support groups, subsidized outreach services, and community events/screenings. In addition, novant participates in medical research, as well as academic health programs and partnerships with a diverse group of organizations to provide other community initiatives. Novant health is also committed to supporting the communities it serves through charitable contributions to community-based programs that improve health equity and upward mobility for those who need it most. Toward that goal, novant invests in community-based programs that align with its two investment priorities of developing healthy communities and expanding opportunities for healthcare education. The hospital also launched a hospital at home program, which earned very positive patient satisfaction scores from patients receiving a hospital level of care in the comfort of their own homes. Nhrmc's emergency department earned a level 3 geriatric emergency department accreditation, highlighting a commitment to delivering remarkable care to older patients. Novant health also expanded its flight operations in rowan county with airlink 4 a helicopter based at nhrmc. This helicopter allows novant health to provide around-the-clock intensive care unit-level support to patients throughout the area. Nhbmc unveiled a new mobile mammography unit to support early breast cancer detection across southeastern north carolina. The mobile unit features the latest 3-d technology. During the 3-d mammogram, an x-ray tube takes multiple low-dose images that are regenerated by a computer. The angled images provide 1-millimeter-thin snapshots of the breast tissues that, collectively, provide radiologists with a detailed, three-dimensional view. In 2024, novant health medical group ("nhmg") added 35 clinic locations, 175 physicians and more than 100 advanced practice providers. Some highlights include: the opening of the third novant health michael jordan family medical clinic (and the first in wilmington, north carolina), which brings much-needed comprehensive primary care services, including to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. This can include providing education about screenings and prevention, transportation assistance or connecting patients to community resources. The clinic also partners with healthcare access, allowing patients to work with a financial navigator to apply for health care coverage. The opening of a new heart failure and pulmonary hypertension clinic in the triad, expanding access to full-service, multispecialty care. Both heart failure and pulmonary hypertension are commonly referred to as silent killers because their symptoms are often ignored but can have devastating effects if left untreated. The clinic offers a robust diagnostic testing area that includes laboratory testing, echocardiographic studies and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Additionally, the clinic has a dedicated infusion suite to treat patients with diuretic therapy to alleviate congestion and avert the need for heart failure hospitalization.
