“The mission of the seamen's service center is to minister to the spiritual and temporal needs of the nearly 7,000 seamen who arrive at the port of wilmington on ships from every corner of the world. This is accomplished by the dedicated service of our chaplain, staff and thirty volunteers. Our spacious facility, which is located within the confines of the port area, is manned every day that a ship is in port, by the chaplain and volunteers. The chaplain boards each vessel while in port to offer assistance to the ship's personnel. We provide a van service from the ship-side to the center and additional service to and from the wilmington area shopping and recreation facilities. The center itself has a chapel for worhsip, mediation or prayer. We also have enhanced communications systems to assist the seafarers in reaching their families back home.”
