Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The overall review strategy for the form 990 ensures that the filing is completed by the chief financial officer or designee from the finance team and reviewed by the president/ceo, the chief development officer, the finance committee and the board of trustees prior to filing. Review by the finance committee - prior to the scheduled meeting, an electronic version of the form 990 is distributed to the members of the finance committee for review. Organization staff are available to assist in this review via telephone or email as needed. During the meeting, the organization designee presents the document to the members of the committee and all questions are addressed. If a committee meeting is not possible prior to the filing deadline, all questions are addressed via email or phone. Review by the board of trustees or executive committee - prior to the scheduled meeting, an electronic version of the form 990 is distributed to the members of the board or committee for review. Organization staff are available to assist in this review via telephone or email as needed. During the meeting, the chair of the finance committee presents the document to the members of the board of trustees or executive committee and all questions are addressed. If a committee meeting is not possible prior to the filing deadline, all questions are addressed via email or phone. Following the review process, the form 990 is filed prior to the due date.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Annually, the board of trustees members are asked to complete and sign a disclosure and affirmation statement and a board of trustees conflict of interest policy via docusign. These completed documents are kept with board of trustees records. In board meetings, all potential conflicts of interest are documented and board members involved abstain from voting.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The president/ceo's compensation is documented in accordance with the written compensation procedures for that specific position. It is administered by the board of trustees and is excluded from the standard thompson child & family focus salary administration compensation plan. The chair of thompson's board, along with the executive committee, is responsible for reviewing the ceo's performance for the fiscal year taking into consideration program management, budget discipline, adherence to the mission, the employees and how we treat those we serve. The executive committee then recommends to the full board the amount of base compensation increase for the ensuing fiscal year as well as what percentage bonus is to be awarded for the current fiscal year. Aside from his/her performance as the ceo, the executive committee and board also take into consideration the compensation of other ceos of similar size organizations locally, regionally, and nationally. The full board reviews these metrics and then votes on the executive committee compensation recommendation. The president/ceo determines the overall compensation for key employees (executive leadership team) based on job performance, scope of work, culture fit, fiscal performance, and comparative compensation data. People operations reviews compensation data of similar positions in the non-profit human service market in charlotte, nc annually utilizing data from various sources to include but not limited to guide star non-profit, indeed, linkedin, bluewater nonprofit solutions and competitor information. Utilizing diverse forms of compensation data ensures equity, fairness, and market competitiveness within the human services sector. The process described here was last completed in 2023.

IRS990/Desc0MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES: SEE SCHEDULE OMENTAL HEALTH SERVICES: THOMPSON MAINTAINS A COMPREHENSIVE CONTINUUM OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ACROSS OUR SERVICE AREAS, RANGING FROM OUTPATIENT THERAPY TO RESIDENTIAL SERVICES. OUR COMMITMENT IS TO MEET CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WHERE THEY ARE, STARTING IN THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT WHILE BEING PREPARED TO OFFER THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF CARE WHEN NEEDED. IN FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024, THOMPSON PROVIDED 1,436 MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES THROUGH AN ARRAY OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES. WE ARE PROUD OF OUR AGENCY-WIDE TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE MODEL, CHILDREN AND RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCES (CARE). ALL OUR STAFF RECEIVE TRAINING IN TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE, AND OUR MENTAL HEALTH TEAMS RECEIVE ADDITIONAL TRAINING IN MODELS SUCH AS TRAUMA-FOCUSED COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (TF-CBT), FAMILY CENTERED TREATMENT (FCT), AND MULTI-SYSTEMIC THERAPY (MST). OUR EFFORTS HAVE YIELDED SIGNIFICANT RESULTS: 84% OF CLIENTS EXPERIENCED MENTAL HEALTH GAINS ACROSS THE AGENCY, EXCEEDING OUR GOAL OF 70%. 91% OF CLIENTS INCREASED THEIR WHOLE HEALTH SCORE FROM INTAKE TO DISCHARGE IN FY23-24. THESE ACHIEVEMENTS UNDERSCORE OUR DEDICATION TO PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND OUR COMMITMENT TO CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IN THE CARE WE OFFER TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.
