Activity 2

Camping Programs:Our residential camping offers adventure and learning activities that provide challenge, education, and promote spiritual awareness, mental development, physical well being, social growth and self-respect. Our camps provide a reverence for nature and respect for the inter-relatedness of all living things on earth. Our camps are open to all, regardless of income or special needs, so that children appreciate diversity, become community leaders and develop lifelong values. In 2011, we served over 4600 youth. Cheerio also provided 40 full or partial scholarships to participants.

Activity 3

Neighborhood and Community Services:Our YMCA believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors; we are a partner in building strong communities for members and non-members alike. Our YMCA promotes community development through a series of programs designed to work with the disadvantaged. Some of the programs offered at no cost or at below-market rates are child care, youth sports, counselor-in-training program, and programs for seniors. In 2011, our senior program grew to over 100 participants and we launched a successful youth basketball program. All ages are welcome and involved at our YMCA. Direct financial assistance in excess of $148,000 was provided in 2011.Our YMCA also participates in community partnerships with churches, local government and businesses. During 2011, some of our collaborations were the annual Martin Luther King, Jr parade, an Easter Egg Hunt, the Juneteenth Celebration, Community Day in which over 300 people participated, the Back to School Bash in which over 500 kids participated and our Minority Achievers Banquet which had attendance of over 400 people.
