Mission

Uwcfa mobilizes resources to empower local people working toward leading self-sufficient, healthy lives in brunswick, columbus, new hanover and pender counties. As an independent, locally owned and operated nonprofit organization governed by local volunteers, uwcfa invests in 37 local programs and initiatives in the cape fear area that address specific community goals aimed at improving the health and wellness of individuals, improve futures for children by improving education outcomes, and increase people's ability to attain and maintain financial stability.

Vision: to build a strong, healthy community where people aspire to live and are inspired to give. Mission: to unite and mobilize resources to achieve measurable results to improve lives and strengthen communities.

All board members and employees fill out a questionaire regarding conflicts annually. Any conflicts identified are communicated and resolved as appropriate in the circumstance. All board members and employees are required to read, sign and abide by a code of ethics policy annually.

Other programs include allocation of grants and donor designations to participating organizations. Grants are awarded in 3-year cycles to area agencies which provide service in the areas of health, education and financial stability. In fiscal year 2014 united way of the cape fear area (uwcfa) allocated 1.3 million dollars to more than 50 public service agencies. Uwcfa is affiliated with the united way of america and united way worldwide. To maintain those affiliations, uwcfa adheres to a set of performance standards designed to ensure good governance, financial accountability and transparency. These standards are integrated with uwcfa's strategic planning processes and promote administrative efficiencies thereby maximizing community impact. In fiscal year 2014 uwcfa achieved the following ratios as supported by revenue reported in part viii and functional expense allocations reported in part ix. Overhead (management and general) expense as a % of revenue - 3% fundraising expense as a % of revenue - 9%

UWCFA IS AFFILIATED WITH THE UNITED WAY OF AMERICA AND UNITED WAY WORLDWIDE. TO MAINTAIN THOSE AFFILIATIONS, UWCFA ADHERES TO A SET OF PERFORMANCE STANDARDS DESIGNED TO ENSURE GOOD GOVERNANCE, FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY. THESE STANDARDS ARE INTEGRATED WITH UWCFA'S STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESSES AND PROMOTE ADMINISTRATIVE EFFICIENCIES THEREBY MAXIMIZING COMMUNITY IMPACT.
