Additional Explanations

General explanation attachment

The greater wheeling coalition for the homeless helps to advance housing and human services to the homeless; educate the community on the plight of homelessness in the northern panhandle of west virginia; work with other agencies to develop and/or provide short and long term residential care for the poor and needy; coordinate a referral of local human services; and advocate on behalf of the homeless to city, county, state and federal governments. We assist clients with emergency shelter payments and provide intensive in-house service options through agency owned facilities, such as transitional housing for homeless individuals and families along with residential supportive housing for individuals with disabilities. We are working to prevent homelessness when at imminent risk, break the cycle of homelessness through intensive case management services, and engage all clients, who are willingly in a housing plan, to access permanent affordable housing as soon as possible. With our efforts, we strive to empower and provide these individuals with the needed skill set to be successful in maintaining permanent housing after our assistance ends.
