Major Activities

Activity 2
Our residential ymca camp horseshoe programs offer teen entrepreneurship and civic leadership-service camps and learning activities that engage, challenge, educate, prepare and motivate teens to return home ready to help others. Horseshoe's programs for 7-12 year old boys and girls include youth opportunity camps for low income children. Horseshoe also offers heritage arts camps for adults and serves as a location for the learning camps conducted by schools, colleges and others. Horseshoe uses active learning in the out-of-doors to engage persons in becoming more aware of their potential as persons and as members of community, build self-confidence, strengthens skills of civic involvement and causes persons to return home ready and more committed to helping others. Our program partners in this work include community action agencies, department of human services, chambers of commerce, state department of education and local schools, wv corporation for national and community service, wv department of education and the arts, resa educational service agencies, the united states forest service and others. This also includes horseshoe's recreation area which provides family camping. Horseshoe's adjoining horseshoe recreation area offers tent and camper sites for persons and families to enjoy time in the natural setting of the monogahela national forest.
Activity 3
Our new program, cave lake, offers 750 acres of rare natural beauty and treasures as nature's classroom. Currently we offer family camping. As we develop the cave lake center for community leadership we will offer a range of educational, environmental, leadership, civic, arts and other programming. For now, our focus is family camping. Our partners include the ohio department of natural resources, governor's office of appalachia, ge, buckeye trail association and others.
