“The foundation was created as a result of the june 1, 2017 sale of ohio valley medical center ("ovmc") and east ohio regional hospital ("eorh") to alecto, a for-profit health care system. Therefore, the foundation was created to carry out the charitable outreach activities of the former not- for-profit ovmc and eorh. On march 19, 2018, the foundation was designated by the internal revenue service as a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c) (3) public charity. Therefore, most of the 2017 and early 2018 calendar years involved working on making the appropriate steps to rename and reclassify the foundation. The foundation is currently working to award annual grants in order to assure community needs are met and thus, the foundation is developing a formalized competitive grant process which will be announced and shared with public charities within the communities the foundation serves. The mission of this foundation is to improve the health and well- being of the residents of the ohio valley.”

“As of 12/31/2019, river valley health foundation was a 50% beneficiary of the ethel c elikan trust. Their share of the trust was included as an asset on the balance sheet as of 12/31/2019. In 2020, the trust removed river valley health foundation as a beneficiary due to the closing of two local hospitals. (river valley health foundation was established at these two hospitals but still serves the residents in the area and other non-profits that are replacing the two closed hospitals.) as a result, we had to remove the balance of the trust from the balance sheet which resulted in an expense entitled "loss of restricted funds" totaling 343,507. This is a one-time expense related to the loss of beneficiary status with this trust.”

THEIR SHARE OF THE TRUST WAS INCLUDED AS AN ASSET ON THE BALANCE SHEET AS OF 12/31/2019. IN 2020, THE TRUST REMOVED RIVER VALLEY HEALTH FOUNDATION AS A BENEFICIARY DUE TO THE CLOSING OF TWO LOCAL HOSPITALS. (RIVER VALLEY HEALTH FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED AT THESE TWO HOSPITALS BUT STILL SERVES THE RESIDENTS IN THE AREA AND OTHER NON-PROFITS THAT ARE REPLACING THE TWO CLOSED HOSPITALS.) AS A RESULT, WE HAD TO REMOVE THE BALANCE OF THE TRUST FROM THE BALANCE SHEET WHICH RESULTED IN AN EXPENSE ENTITLED "LOSS OF RESTRICTED FUNDS" TOTALING 343,507. THIS IS A ONE-TIME EXPENSE RELATED TO THE LOSS OF BENEFICIARY STATUS WITH THIS TRUST. |
