The 2024 Plant Sale: Yet Another Incredible Achievement!The 2024 Plant Sale was a massive success thanks to the hard work and dedication of DCMGA members and community support. Preparation began in late 2023 with securing the venue and continued into 2024 with plant digs at members homes thereby securing over 4,100 donated plants and purchasing around 4,000 more. On sale day over 300 volunteers helped set up and assist customers who lined up early despite a drizzle. Highlights included a huge selection of Texas native plants a wide variety of succulents and a stunning rose selection. The sale saw our highest grossing amount ever funding DCMGAs community outreach and educational programs for the year. Thanks to each and every one of you who supported us. Heres to another successful Plant Sale and a huge thank you to Trinity United Methodist Church for hosting us. What an amazing event!$0$23,208
Scholarships. Pursuing our mission to support horticulture education in Denton County TX DCMGA funded $6548 in scholarships to college students pursuing horticulture related studies and adults taking horticulture related specialists training.$6,548$0
Unveiling Beauty Learning and Community at Our 2024 Garden Tour!What an incredible day we had on Saturday May 11 at our annual Garden Tour! Mother Nature blessed us with perfect weather as 1,972 adults and 76 youth explored four stunning Master Gardeners home gardens and the Flower Mound First Baptist Community Garden. A huge thank you to the homeowners for opening your gardens to the community. And lets not forget the Garden Tour Team and all the dedicated volunteers who made this event possible! Ninety-two volunteers on Tour Day ensured every visitor had an incredible experience. Our members dedicated over 3,700 hours preparing these inspiring educational experiences. EarthKind Design Classes. DCMGA provides this 3 day garden design class. It is always well attended. Over 50 community members attended in 2024. It is aimed at Denton County homeowners and teaches the principles of garden design preparation construction and maintenance.$0$2,062
Flower Mound First Baptist Community Garden Flower Mound Flower Mound First Baptist Community Garden is an educational and demonstration resource for residents scout troops students and those with special needs. Master Gardeners assist church garden volunteers in planting maintaining and harvesting fresh produce for donation to Community Christian Association CCA.$0$1,941
Fall Into Gardening Event. DCMGA holds this public outreach event each year. Horticulture classes and hands on training are provided to the public. Over 500 members of Denton County attended in 2024.$0$1,809
Friends of Shiloh Field Garden DentonFriends of Shiloh Garden one of the largest community gardens in the United States promotes and supports food production for low and moderate-income families. DCMGA assists with planting maintaining and harvesting fresh produce for donation to multiple local organizations.$0$1,763
Science With Attitude SWAt SWAt is a year-round program providing individualized supplemental education on various horticultural and environmental science topics for the classroom and other educational and community venues. Through SWAts Educational Outreach Program Master Gardeners working jointly with Elm Fork Master Naturalist and 4-H volunteers provide stand-alone curriculum-enrichment opportunities that are volunteer led to support topics being taught in the classroom and align with state standards in math science and reading.All of SWAts program kits include a TEKs driven lesson plan directions for the corresponding activity and all needed materials. This is all free to you your school or your association. Our presentations run approximately 30-45 minutes and most lessons fit with K-6 curriculums but some can be reworked for presentations in middle and high school. Kits are also available for checkout if you prefer to work the program kit independently with your students.$0$1,634
Celebrating the Best of Fruits Veggies Herbs and Flowers!Since the 1990s the Denton County Master Gardener Association has been the proud host of this dazzling county-fair-style show where Denton County residents flaunt their prized fruits veggies flowers and herbs vying for ribbons and best-in-show glory. This years show held at the North Texas Fairgrounds was a spectacular affair featuring the fantastic keynote Creating an Easy-Care Texas Garden by Steven Chamblee. Twelve educational booths including the City of Denton Recycling the Native Plant Society of Texas and the DCMGA Propagation Team enriched our gardening know-how. We saw 116 fabulous exhibits across three categoriesadults youth and Master Gardeners. Fruits veggies herbs and flowers like Zinnias Eggplants and Figs wowed the judges from Dallas Tarrant and Grayson Counties. Special shoutout to the 50+ Denton County Master Gardeners who made this event a perennial success!$0$1,373
Fairoaks Independent Living Center Denton Fairoaks is an independent senior living community located in North Denton. Master Gardeners meet for regular workdays to assist the residents with small individual garden areas a community vegetable garden and general landscape beautification.$0$1,291
Beulah Acres Agroforest Corinth At Beulah Acres Agroforest our members assist in developing an urban food forest established on two acres of land at the Global Spheres Center in Corinth. The primary goals are to increase community awareness and demonstrate an agroforestry system of plant-based food production through Earth-Kind and permaculture practices.$0$1,012
Denton County Youth Fair. Working with Denton County 4-H and Future Farmers of America DCMGA coordinates the horticultural show and judges horticultural entries in 10 categories for quality and conformance to standards. Master Gardeners assist with registering and documenting the entries and help the entrants learn to manage the plant to obtain the best result by show time. On show day DCMGA volunteers judge the entries.$0$750
Argyle Unity Park ArgyleMaster Gardeners work with the Town of Argyle to beautify Argyle Unity Park at 135 Crawford Argyle Tx. Programs include educating the public about Texas native drought-tolerant and heat-tolerant plants.$0$600
Denton County Historical Park DentonThe Denton County Historical Park is home to several historical buildings including the Bayless-Selby House Museum. DCMGA works with Denton County in developing landscaping and maintaining heirloom gardens pathways and trees at the historic site.$0$393
Denton County Community Grove CarrolltonDiscover the Denton County Community Grove nestled at 1029 W. Rosemeade Pkwy in Carrollton. This collaborative project with Denton County leaders showcases a vibrant demonstration grove of fruits and nuts. Educational classes are offered to the community highlighting home fruit production. Managed by Denton County Facilities Management in partnership with DCMGA this lush oasis features fruit trees berry plants and is situated at the Sandy Jacobs Government Center.$0$190
Growing Excellence: DCMGA Blooms with Four First-Place Wins!Were thrilled to share that DCMGA won four first-place awards in the Texas Master Gardener Association Search for Excellence awards! Competing in the 200+ member Live Oak category our amazing volunteers stood out. We took top honors for the awards Workshop-Presentation for our educational Garden Tour Written-Recorded for social media outreach and Research for our onion study. DCMGA also clinched the Outstanding Association Award for our dedication to a greener Denton County with 345 volunteers contributing 33,921 service hours in 2023. Josey Ranch Pocket Prairie CarrolltonThis project assists the City of Carrollton Library Parks and Recreation and Environmental Quality Departments in developing educational opportunities that engage the public in learning about pollinator gardens appropriate plant selection and establishing a seed library.$0$0
Garden Help DeskMaster Gardener volunteers answer local residents gardening questions using research-based evidence training from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and their experience gardening in North Texas. The service is free and we are happy to help.$0$0
Gardenscapers. The Gardenscapers project assists approved non-profit organizations with landscape planning including soil types ongoing drought conditions and the capricious nature of our climate using water-wise plantings low maintenance Texas natives and design elements.$0$0
Roots for Wings Lewisville Roots for Wings is a pilot program certifying residential pollinator and native habitat gardens. This program provides residents with training and education on site selection and preparation plant selection and maintenance and ecological benefits. Ask A Master Gardener Booth. The Ask A Master Gardener booth is an outreach of the Denton County Master Gardener Association. It allows the public and certified Master Gardeners to interact one-on-one. We provide research-based gardening education and experiences field questions and address local gardening concerns. We participate in local venues including farmers markets Arbor Day events Earth Day Denton Redbud Festival community and employee fairs and our DCMGA-sponsored annual events. We try to keep our green thumb on the communitys pulse and are constantly tailoring our presentation to best represent Denton County Master Gardeners at each event we attend.$0$0
Josey Ranch Pocket Prairie. 1700 Keller Springs Rd Carrollton. A restored pocket prairie with many species of native flowers prairie grasses and pollinator plants. IRS990EZ/ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp/DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt0The 2024 Plant Sale: Yet Another Incredible Achievement!The 2024 Plant Sale was a massive success thanks to the hard work and dedication of DCMGA members and community support. Preparation began in late 2023 with securing the venue and continued into 2024 with plant digs at members homes thereby securing over 4,100 donated plants and purchasing around 4,000 more. On sale day over 300 volunteers helped set up and assist customers who lined up early despite a drizzle. Highlights included a huge selection of Texas native plants a wide variety of succulents and a stunning rose selection. The sale saw our highest grossing amount ever funding DCMGAs community outreach and educational programs for the year. Thanks to each and every one of you who supported us. Heres to another successful Plant Sale and a huge thank you to Trinity United Methodist Church for hosting us. What an amazing event!

Mother Nature blessed us with perfect weather as 1,972 adults and 76 youth explored four stunning Master Gardeners home gardens and the Flower Mound First Baptist Community Garden. A huge thank you to the homeowners for opening your gardens to the community. And lets not forget the Garden Tour Team and all the dedicated volunteers who made this event possible! Ninety-two volunteers on Tour Day ensured every visitor had an incredible experience. Our members dedicated over 3,700 hours preparing these inspiring educational experiences. Thank you to our visitors and members for making this event unforgettable!

Over 50 community members attended in 2024. It is aimed at Denton County homeowners and teaches the principles of garden design preparation construction and maintenance.

DCMGA assists with planting maintaining and harvesting fresh produce for donation to multiple local organizations.
IRS990EZ/ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp/DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt6Science With Attitude SWAt SWAt is a year-round program providing individualized supplemental education on various horticultural and environmental science topics for the classroom and other educational and community venues. Through SWAts Educational Outreach Program Master Gardeners working jointly with Elm Fork Master Naturalist and 4-H volunteers provide stand-alone curriculum-enrichment opportunities that are volunteer led to support topics being taught in the classroom and align with state standards in math science and reading.All of SWAts program kits include a TEKs driven lesson plan directions for the corresponding activity and all needed materials. This is all free to you your school or your association. Our presentations run approximately 30-45 minutes and most lessons fit with K-6 curriculums but some can be reworked for presentations in middle and high school. Kits are also available for checkout if you prefer to work the program kit independently with your students.
IRS990EZ/ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp/DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt7Celebrating the Best of Fruits Veggies Herbs and Flowers!Since the 1990s the Denton County Master Gardener Association has been the proud host of this dazzling county-fair-style show where Denton County residents flaunt their prized fruits veggies flowers and herbs vying for ribbons and best-in-show glory. This years show held at the North Texas Fairgrounds was a spectacular affair featuring the fantastic keynote Creating an Easy-Care Texas Garden by Steven Chamblee. Twelve educational booths including the City of Denton Recycling the Native Plant Society of Texas and the DCMGA Propagation Team enriched our gardening know-how. We saw 116 fabulous exhibits across three categoriesadults youth and Master Gardeners. Fruits veggies herbs and flowers like Zinnias Eggplants and Figs wowed the judges from Dallas Tarrant and Grayson Counties. Special shoutout to the 50+ Denton County Master Gardeners who made this event a perennial success!

The primary goals are to increase community awareness and demonstrate an agroforestry system of plant-based food production through Earth-Kind and permaculture practices.

Working with Denton County 4-H and Future Farmers of America DCMGA coordinates the horticultural show and judges horticultural entries in 10 categories for quality and conformance to standards. Master Gardeners assist with registering and documenting the entries and help the entrants learn to manage the plant to obtain the best result by show time. On show day DCMGA volunteers judge the entries.

Managed by Denton County Facilities Management in partnership with DCMGA this lush oasis features fruit trees berry plants and is situated at the Sandy Jacobs Government Center.

We took top honors for the awards Workshop-Presentation for our educational Garden Tour Written-Recorded for social media outreach and Research for our onion study. DCMGA also clinched the Outstanding Association Award for our dedication to a greener Denton County with 345 volunteers contributing 33,921 service hours in 2023. It allows the public and certified Master Gardeners to interact one-on-one. We provide research-based gardening education and experiences field questions and address local gardening concerns. We participate in local venues including farmers markets Arbor Day events Earth Day Denton Redbud Festival community and employee fairs and our DCMGA-sponsored annual events. We try to keep our green thumb on the communitys pulse and are constantly tailoring our presentation to best represent Denton County Master Gardeners at each event we attend.
