“The w foundation program activities novato space festivalas a result of covid-19, the w foundation shut down the annual novato space festival which had been operating since 2012. The organization in is the process of making structural changes to deal with the loss of volunteers and funding. A portion of the artifacts from the foundation's extensive collection are still on display with our supported organizations. The remainder of the collection is being stored in a warehouse for safekeeping. Historically the festival was open to the general public and allowed visitors and school groups a chance to explore the history of manned spaceflight and exploration. The space festival was a free family event that offered hands-on activities, interactive displays, and a rare opportunity to talk with ledgendary nasa astronauts who have flown into space, piloted a space shuttle, or lived on the international space station. Visitors could try on a pair of russian cosmonaut's space suit gloves, touch real moon rocks, don a prototype space helmet designed for the apollo missions, and even sit in a seat from a soyuz spacecraft. The foundation possesses a large collections of space exploration artifacts and works with organizatinons and events like oakland's chabot space and science center, the uss hornet museum in alameda, and san francisco fleet week to present educational exhibits on the history of space exploration. During the covid years, the foundation hosted "covid-19 work-arounds and live interviews on social media with astronauts, space industry experts, and aeronautic engineers and planetary geologists. The foundation also sponsored a tribute to apollo 15 astronaut col. Al worden.”
