“To restore, preserve, educate the public about, and operate as a historic site the property known as pine knot (va and federal historic landmark), used as a family retreat by president theodore and edith roosevelt during his presidency. The foundation and site is dedicated to the preservation of the president's and his family's history at the pine knot site and to the education of the public of the principles, ideas, achievements and legacy of president theodore roosevelt.”

“Educational site tours are regularly provided to the public as well as house tours year round upon request, bird walks and nature walks with knowledgeable guides are provided at the site in the spring to the public without charge, educational programs are provided to school children, church organizations, civic, senior and historic groups. The site is used by local organizations and schools for civic volunteer work. In the spring, historian david brinkley, an author who has written about tr's life and his conservation policies and legacy, provided an educational talk about his book "wilderness warrior: theodore roosevelt and the crusade for america" and the importance of tr's time at pine knot at the foundation's spring fund raising event. An educational program focused on tr's conservation legacy and time at pine knot was provided in the fall to foundation supporters and to neighbors. The foundation was a sponsor of the 500 year forest foundation annual meeting which was held at the pine knot site. The foundation also presented in the c-span documentary "the lives of the first ladies" for the part of the program focused on edith roosevelt in which the times of the roosevelts at pine knot was featured. The foundation also hosted civic leaders from the african continent brought to pine knot by the presidential precinct through a partnership with the u.s. Department of state in its international visitor leadership program, the goal of which is to enable participants to gain deeper insights into the society and culture of the united states, and an awareness of the diversity of opinions and ideas, even as they inform americans about their own culture and society.”
