Major Activities

Activity 2

Increased our effort to enhance community engagement and spread the word on the importance of protecting our rivers and streams: among our actions, we 1) developed and distributed a survey on communications and engagement issues to our members and followers; 2) published four quarterly print newsletters and posted monthly enews; 3) called for multiple action alerts concerning umd environmental law clinic and other issues; 4) participated in waterkeeper alliance's clean water act 40 action days (fishable, swimmable and drinkable social media campaigns); 5) organized four river cleanups in maryland, virginia, and d.c.; 6) hosted various on-the-water events throughout the watershed; and 7) celebrated the 40th anniversary of the clean water act through an expert panel discussion and rally for clean water.

Activity 3

Patrolled waterways and received reports from volunteer riverwatchers to identify pollution problems throughout the watershed: 1)riverkeepers and staff regularly patrolled most portions of the potomac river and the shenandoah river; 2) volunteer riverwatchers helped monitor other portions of the watershed; 3) received and responded to hundreds of pollution reports involving sick fish, fish kills, pollution, and algae.
