Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The association was established as an exempt organization under the laws of the commonwealth of virginia and is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(6) of the internal revenue code. In accordance with current tax law the association notified its members that a portion of their membership dues were used for lobbying and were nondeductible. The total amounts identified as nondeductible exceeded actual lobbying expenses incurred. The association does not receive any unrelated business income. Accordingly, no provision has been made for income taxes. The organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The income tax returns for the organization for the years ended december 31, 2012, 2011 and 2010 are subject to examination by the internal revenue service, generally for three years after they were filed.
