Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11B

The 990 draft is reviewed and checked by the President, Executive Director and Independent Accountant. It is then sent to the Board of Directors for approval prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

The Chair of the Board puts this on the agenda at the first board meeting of the new fiscal year and all employees fill out an annual disclosure form.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15

For the CEO, Executive Director and top management, comparable information was researched through employment advertisements and Guidestar. The Board reviews and approves the amount. For the President, comparable information was researched through nonprofit literature at the time and confirmed with independent individuals. The Board reviewed and approved the amount. For other employees, comparable information was researched through advertisements. The Executive Director, who works directly with the budget, makes these decisions.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

Governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are made available to the public upon request.

IRS990/Desc0Botball Educational Robotics Program: The Botball Educational Robotics Program engages middle and high school aged students in a team-oriented robotics competition, and serves as a perfect way to meet today's new common core standards. It serves over 6,000 students per year in 13 US regions and 3 International regions. By designing, building, programming, and documenting robots, students use science, engineering, technology, math, and writing skills in a hands-on project that reinforces their learning. Students are exposed to an inquiry-based, learn-by-doing activity that appeals to their hearts as well as their minds. Botball addresses our nation's need for a well-prepared, creative, yet disciplined workforce with leadership and teamwork experience.

This program is built to teach students autonomous drone control via the Python programming language. Challenge days are an opportunity for students to gather family and friends to showcase the knowledge and skills they've acquired by demonstrating completion of various challenges. This program was developed to help educators feel empowered to facilitate this Python learning experience with their students throughout the school year. Every year the Aerial Botball Challenge program culminates in a 4-day Challenge event at the Global Conference on Educational Robotics. Students and teachers who attend this event get to work alongside attendees from all over the world.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR) was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1994 to make the long-term educational benefits of robotics accessible to students. Our name is the well-known acronym (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and students tell us that this motto has been quite useful in designing their robots. KIPR's Mission is to: - Improve the public's understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math; - Develop the skills, character, and aspirations of students; and - Contribute to the enrichment of our school systems, communities, and the nation.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1Federal Form 990 has been amended to reflect the Employee Retention Credit claimed for fiscal year 2020, as well as other trial balance adjustments made for fiscal year 2020. Parts I, III, VIII, IX, X, XI, Schedule A and Schedule B have been amended to reflect these adjustments.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2The 990 draft is reviewed and checked by the President, Executive Director and Independent Accountant. It is then sent to the Board of Directors for approval prior to filing.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The Chair of the Board puts this on the agenda at the first board meeting of the new fiscal year and all employees fill out an annual disclosure form.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4For the CEO, Executive Director and top management, comparable information was researched through employment advertisements and Guidestar.
