IRS990/Desc0The Center's two First Amendment monuments provide individuals in Charlottesville and around Central Virginia with the opportunity to come together, learn about the First Amendment, and exercise their free speech rights publicly. The monuments are also used for public gatherings, memorials, protests, and rallies. The permanent monument is located outside Charlottesville City Hall. The mobile version traveled to numerous colleges, parks, and festivals in 2017. Combined, the monuments served an estimated 150,000 visitors.

Clinic students conduct legal research and file amicus briefs in courts nationwide under the supervision of Center staff. While not a public interest law firm, the Center's mission does call for active participation in litigation concerning the First Amendment.
