Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part I, Line 1, Mission and most significant activities:

The National Technical Investigators' Association is a non-profit law enforcement educational association. The purpose of NATIA is to further knowledge, develop skills and promote fellowship between law enforcement and intelligence professionals who support their agencies' technical surveillance, tactical operations, and forensic activities. NATIA is composed of over 4,000 law enforcement, intelligence officers, and support staff, who provide the technical operations, surveillance activities, and scientific support for hundreds of federal, state, and local agencies across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Each year we play host to a growing number of representatives from foreign law enforcement agencies. This is accomplished through a blend of regional and national programs. We hold both regional meetings and an annual national conference where we provide training in new technologies, discuss major developments, conduct workshops, and sponsor a technology exhibition.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The National Technical Investigators' Association is a non-profit law enforcement educational association.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The bylaws were amended in January of 2016 to include email as a allowable mechanism for bylaw changes amending Section 4, Article XIII.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2NATIA has members.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3NATIA's membership ratifies election results.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4The bylaws of NATIA cover each chapter.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5A copy of the Form 990 is first reviewed and approved by the Executive Committee. A copy of the Form 990 is then provided to the Board of Directors before it is filed.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt6Each director, officer and person with substantial influence over NATIA is required to review a copy of the conflict of interest policy, which requires each such person to disclose any relationships, positions or circumstances in which he or she believes could contribute to a conflict. Following full disclosure of a possible conflict of interest, the Board of Directors shall determine whether a conflict of interest exists and, if so the Board shall vote to authorize or reject the transaction or take any other action deemed necessary to address the conflict and protect NATIA's best interests.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt7NATIA makes its Form 1023 available upon request. NATIA makes available a public disclosure copy of its Federal Form 990 upon request.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt8NATIA makes its governing documents, certain policies (including conflict of interest policy) and financial statements available upon request based on discretion of management.
