Mission

To represent its members in the national public policy arena, with emphasis on efforts to promote the industry and educate legislators and public policy personnel, and to assist legislative, regulatory, standard-setting and other government or private bodies in the development of laws, regulations and policies affecting lumber and building material dealers, its customers and suppliers.

National lumber and building material dealers association promotes the best interests of the lumber and building material industry in the united states. National lumber and building material dealers association is instrumental in developing employee education and training programs for its member organizations along with providing a national voice for them by representing and acting on behalf of the retail dealers before all branches and agencies of the government. They provide the forum that will facilitate action on professional, business, environmental and legislative issues.

The organization has entered into a management contract with smithbucklin. Under the terms of this contract, national lumber & building dealers association makes payments to smithbucklin which cover staff salaries and other overhead expenses. The fees incurred by national lumber during the fiscal year were 469,113 which were broken down as follows: administrative staff services - 141,370, management and headquarters - 146,700, financial management and accounting services - 38,000, convention and trade show services - 59,330 marketing and communication services - 2,554, and government relations - 81,159. Smithbucklin's performance under this agreement is monitored by the board of national lumber.

The purpose of the conflict of interest policy is to protect the interests of national lumber & building material dealers association (nlbmda), when it is contemplating entering into a transaction or arrangement that might benefit the private interest of an officer or director of nlbmda or might result in a possible excess benefit transaction. In connection with any actual or possible conflict of interest, an interested person must disclose the existence of the financial interest as soon as it is known and be given the opportunity to disclose all material facts to the directors and members of committees with governing board delegated powers considering the proposed transaction or arrangement. The remaining board or committee members shall decide if a conflict of interest exists. After disclosure of the financial interest and all material facts, and after any discussion with the interested person, he/she shall leave the governing board or committee meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon.

National lumber & building material dealers association has analyzed its tax positions, and has concluded that no liability for unrecognized tax benefits should be recorded related to any uncertain tax positions taken on returns filed for open tax years (2010-2012), or expected to be taken in the national lumber & building material dealers association's 2013 tax return.
