I will recuse myself from decisions that create or appear to create a conflict of interest for me. 2) board members recuse themselves and leave the board room during discussion and votes that create or appear to create a conflict of interest for the board member. The executive committee is responsible for ensuring the recusals occur. 3) the conflict of interest policy and board member agreement is reviewed annually.”

“The board of directors completes an annual performance review of the ceo. This includes a 360 degree review from employees, board members, and sometimes consultants and volunteers. Based upon the feedback collected, as well as the overall performance of the organization, the governance committee makes a recommendation to the board of directors for the ceo's salary increase. The increase is merit- based, as well as based upon cost of living adjustment. The board of directors votes on the governance committee's recommendation at a board meeting.”

“The butterfly house & aquarium had 40,546 visitors during the july 1 - december 31, 2022, timeframe. Opportunities to experience tropical ecosystems are minimal to nonexistent for most residents in the landlocked, all-season midwest. A reprieve from the cold, encounters with colorful butterflies and fish, and the tranquility of the exhibits establish our facility as a one-of-a-kind destination in the dakotas. With over 800 tropical butterflies in a year round 80-degree oasis, and twelve saltwater aquariums, we strive to leave an impact on every guest through interactive learning and healing experiences with nature. In addition, free admission is provided to various social service nonprofit partners to provide the opportunity to heal and relax year round surrounded by beautiful butterflies and aquariums. Throughout the july 1 - december 31, 2022, timeframe, 132 volunteers gave 2,784 hours of their time.”
