Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

In 2014 the organization joined the "lions @frica" partnership, which is a joint venture that promotes african innovation and entrepreneurship.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The board of directors has the authority with regards to oversight of the audit, review, or compilation of the financial statements and the selection of independent accountants. The process has not changed from prior year.

FORM 990, PART I, LINE 8 TO 19:

The 2014 form 990 schedule r shows global entrepreneurship week (gew) as a new related entity of the institute. The institute transferred revenue, related expenses, and assets to gew. As a result any comparison of 2013 revenue and expense to 2014 revenue expenses found on part i, line 8 -19 will not be accurate.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. It is, however, subject to tax on net income derived from unrelated business activity under applicable tax law. To date, the organization has not engaged in such activities. The organization accounts for income taxes in accordance with the accounting standards codification (asc) topic income taxes. These provisions provide consistent guidance for the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements and prescribe a threshold of "more likely than not" for recognition and derecognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The organization performed an evaluation of uncertain tax positions for the year ended december 31, 2014 and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or that may have an effect on its tax-exempt status. As of december 31, 2014, the statute of limitations for fiscal years 2011 through 2013 remains open with the u.s. Federal jurisdiction. It is the organization's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, in unrelated business income tax expense.
