“The organization has no committees.”
“The directors, president, treasurer, and executive vice president are provided with the 990 before it is filed, and are encouraged to review it carefully.”
“Not only have the board memebers, officers, and key employees signed the conflict of interest policy stating that they agree to notify the board of any conflict of interest, but they are reminded of the policy at each board meeting. Furthermore, the point person employee for the whistleblower policy encourages emplooyees to disclose information about any activities that might be reviewed as potential conflicts of interest.”
“There have been no reviews or adjustments to senior management compensation. Any further compensation reviews, which fall within the board adopted policy will be led by an independent board member, will no involve the person concerned, and will be based on contemporaneous comparability data.”
“The organization's main governing documents, including its policies and financial statements are made available for inspection at the offices of the public forum institute by the public upon request.”
“In 2014 the organization joined the "lions @frica" partnership, which is a joint venture that promotes african innovation and entrepreneurship.”
“The board of directors has the authority with regards to oversight of the audit, review, or compilation of the financial statements and the selection of independent accountants. The process has not changed from prior year.”
“The 2014 form 990 schedule r shows global entrepreneurship week (gew) as a new related entity of the institute. The institute transferred revenue, related expenses, and assets to gew. As a result any comparison of 2013 revenue and expense to 2014 revenue expenses found on part i, line 8 -19 will not be accurate.”
“The organization is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. It is, however, subject to tax on net income derived from unrelated business activity under applicable tax law. To date, the organization has not engaged in such activities. The organization accounts for income taxes in accordance with the accounting standards codification (asc) topic income taxes. These provisions provide consistent guidance for the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements and prescribe a threshold of "more likely than not" for recognition and derecognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The organization performed an evaluation of uncertain tax positions for the year ended december 31, 2014 and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or that may have an effect on its tax-exempt status. As of december 31, 2014, the statute of limitations for fiscal years 2011 through 2013 remains open with the u.s. Federal jurisdiction. It is the organization's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, in unrelated business income tax expense.”
