IRS990/Desc0The 2016-2017 fiscal year was a year of strategic planning and re-focusing the organization, leading to the reincorporation of the IFSA as the International Fire Suppression Alliance in December of 2017. Nevertheless, the three major projects funded during the fiscal year were the following:In response to a grant request, IFSA provided $30,000 to serve as the primary sponsor of the CBSpkII confenrece held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil 26-28 October 2016. This conference brought together more than 250 government and fire officials, industry participants and others to discuss the current status of fire sprinkler protection measures in Brazil, including issues involving the use of non-certified products that pose a danger to the public. In response to a grant request, IFSA also sent $26,933 to the Brazilian Sprinkler Association to sponsor a series of side-by-side fire tests in various locations in Brazil demonstrating the effectiveness of fire sprinklers in room fires as compared to room fires without fire sprinkler protection. Thousands of ordinary citizens as well as local fire officials were able to see for themselves how fire sprinkler systems work to control fires in the early stages before they become dangerous. In response to a grant request, the IFSA sent $12,500 to the National Fire Sprinkler Network in England to provide information about the effectiveness of fire sprinkler systems and the costs of retrofitting such systems in the aftermath of the Grenfell fire disaster that killed 71 residents. The efforts were successful in that at least 300 residential tower blocks in the UK are being retrofitted with automatic fire sprinkler systems. In the final 6 months of a 5-year program that totaled $300,000 IFSA sent $10,000 in support of the European Fire Sprinkler Network (EFSN) country manager in the Netherlands. This assisted the EFSN and the fire sprinkler association in the Netherlands to provide information to the public regarding the effectiveness and advantages of fire sprinklers.
