Profile

The aim of the deming institute is to enrich society through the deming philosophy. Deming is a timeless, collaborative leadership approach that enables organizations and individuals to continually improve, with the aim for everyone to win. For more than 30 years, the institute has equipped people with a unique lens through which great transformations are made. Our resources and network of partners support people in taking bold action to counteract the negative impacts of the traditional command-and-control management style. The institute helps leaders, managers, education professionals, and others use the deming system of profound knowledge (sopk) to understand their organization as a system, learn to appreciate variation and use data, understand basic psychology to create a supportive environment and gain new insights by using knowledge, not just information. Our vision is for the system of profound knowledge to be the standard lens people use to understand and improve the world.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Diana deming cahill, chairman, kevin edwards cahill, president and executive director, and j. Vincent cahill, vice chairman and treasurer, have family relationships.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The federal form 990 is prepared by a professional cpa firm. Before filing with the internal revenue service, the form is provided to deming institute's management and the full board of trustees for their review.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The conflict of interest policy is reviewed at the annual board of trustees meeting. All potential conflicts of interest are to be reported to the deming institute's chairman and the president and executive director. The chairman and the president and executive director, or the board of trustees will then make a decision as to whether the relationship is appropriate or not, and will take appropriative disciplinary and corrective action if warranted.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The process for establishing the full compensation package for the executive director includes the use of market pricing data from a compensation survey. A compensation subcommittee of the board of trustees is responsible for determining the executive director's compensation package, with contemporaneous substantiation of their meeting deliberations and decisions. In addition, the written employment contract is reviewed and approved by the board.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The federal form 990, governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are made available to the public upon request.

Form 990, Part III, Line 1

Thousands of individuals and organizations around the world have benefitted from deming's innovative perspective. They use tools such as plan-do-study-act (pdsa), control charts, prediction, and more to drive down costs while improving quality, boosting morale and increasing revenue. As people take these ideas beyond the workplace, communities and families grow stronger, relationships deepen, and work-life balance improves. The institute builds energy for improvement by introducing deming's leadership philosophy to younger generations, developing new deming leaders, and ensuring knowledge transition from dr. Deming's trusted colleagues. Live seminars and workshops inspire leaders to create new, more collaborative, and rewarding workplaces, classrooms, and organizations. Demingnext is the only online program for learning authentic deming principles with interactive activities, videos and articles from experts, case studies, and archival video of dr. Deming. Demingnext is available anywhere, anytime, serving learners across the globe. Our "in their own words" podcast showcases deming's philosophy in action and provides varied perspectives on the deming philosophy. The institute's youtube channel hosts videos to boost enthusiasm for getting started and learning more. The website (www.deming.org) and other resources increase the adoption of the deming system of profound knowledge in our schools, government, nonprofits and businesses of all sizes. When these and other teachings and practices of sopk are embraced and applied, not only do organizations improve and thrive, but people experience a greater sense of purpose, fulfillment, and joy. Working together, with humility, we make a difference in the quality of life for everyone.

IRS990/MissionDesc0THE AIM OF THE DEMING INSTITUTE IS TO ENRICH SOCIETY THROUGH THE DEMING PHILOSOPHY.
