IRS990/Desc0HISPA VIRTUAL ROLE MODEL PROGRAMMING: THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-21 MARKED HISPA'S FIRST YEAR OF ALL VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING. AS SUCH, HISPA'S TRADITIONAL ROLE MODEL PROGRAMS, CORPORATE VISITS, AND CONFERENCES WERE REFORMED AND REIMAGINED AROUND THE UNIQUE AND CHALLENGING VIRTUAL MODEL.THE VIRTUAL 'LIVE!' HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM ENABLES HISPANIC PROFESSIONALS TO STREAM LIVE TO STUDENTS IN PREDOMINANTLY LOW-INCOME, PUBLIC MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSROOMS IN WHICH HISPANICS ARE THE MAJORITY TO SERVE AS POSITIVE EXAMPLES FOR OUR YOUTH. DURING EACH VISIT (6 HOURS OF VISITS PER SCHOOL PROGRAM, PER SCHOOL YEAR), DIFFERENT HISPA ROLE MODELS SHARE THE EXPERIENCES THAT ALLOWED THEM TO ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS AND SHOW STUDENTS THAT THEY CAN DO THE SAME. VISITS ARE TAILORED TO SCHOOL AND STUDENT NEEDS, RANGING FROM SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS TO LARGE AUDITORIUM PRESENTATIONS, BUT ALL EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND INTRODUCE POTENTIAL FUTURE CAREERS. THE HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM HAS REACHED OVER 17,000 STUDENTS TO DATE. IN ADDITION TO BRINGING HISPA ROLE MODELS TO STUDENTS' CLASSROOMS, HISPA ALSO BRINGS STUDENTS TO HISPA ROLE MODELS' WORKPLACES FOR 'IMAGINE DAY' CORPORATE VISITS. THESE VISITS COMPLEMENT THE ROLE MODEL PROGRAM BY ALLOWING STUDENTS TO EXPLORE HISPA ROLE MODELS' CAREERS FIRST- HAND. THIS YEAR, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, THESE PROGRAMS WERE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY.IN 2020-21, 229 HISPA ROLE MODELS EXECUTED 341 VIRTUAL 'LIVE!' ROLE MODEL PROGRAM VISITS, STREAMING TO 1,941 STUDENTS IN 29 SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION, HISPA HELD TWO VIRTUAL 'IMAGINE DAY' CORPORATE VISITS, WHERE 15 VOLUNTEERS FROM ONE COMPANY VIRTUALLY HOSTED 66 STUDENTS FROM TWO SCHOOLS ENROLLED IN THE HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM.ON-DEMAND VIRTUAL HISPA ROLE MODEL PROGRAM PROGRAMMING: HISPA CONTINUED TO DEVELOP THE 'HISPA 20,000 INSPIRATIONAL STORIES FOR OUR YOUTH' WEB-BASED PLATFORM IN 2020-21. THIS PLATFORM COLLECTS HISPANIC ROLE MODELS' STORIES AS WRITING, AUDIO RECORDING, AND VIDEO AND SHARES THEM IN ONE PLACE, ALL IN A WAY THAT IS IMMEDIATELY ACCESSIBLE. HISPA ALSO DEVELOPED ACCOMPANYING LESSON PLANS FOCUSED ON SOCIAL- EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) SKILLS IN HISPA ROLE MODELS' STORIES. TO DATE, 168 HISPA ROLE MODELS HAVE PUBLISHED THEIR INSPIRATIONAL STORIES, AND 31 SEL LESSON PLAN CARDS HAVE BEEN CREATED. IN 2020-21, 143 HISPA ROLE MODELS RECORDED THEIR STORIES.VIRTUAL CONFERENCES: THE HISPA YOUTH CONFERENCES THEMED "TAKE ACTION! ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS," BRING 150 STUDENTS TO A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS FOR A FULL DAY OF HANDS-ON STEM WORKSHOPS ALONGSIDE 100 POSITIVE, INSPIRATIONAL ROLE MODELS. YOUTH CONFERENCES EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL TO FUTURE SUCCESS, EXCITE STUDENTS ABOUT COLLEGE LIFE, AND ENCOURAGE STUDENTS' EXPLORATION OF STEM STUDIES AND CAREERS. THIS YEAR, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, HISPA INSTEAD HOSTED A VIRTUAL CONFERENCE NAMED HISPA DISCOVERY SUMMIT THEMED "I TO THE 4TH POWER: INSPIRE, IMAGINE, INFORM AND IGNITE". THIS VIRTUAL 3-HR EVENT INTRODUCED INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKERS, INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS, AND INFORMATION ON HOW TO REACH COLLEGE AND CAREER GOALS. THIS YEAR'S DISCOVERY SUMMIT MOBILIZED 100 VOLUNTEERS TO INSPIRE 333 STUDENTS.ROLE MODEL ENGAGEMENT AND TRAINING: IN 2020-21, HISPA TRAINED OVER 500 VOLUNTEERS FROM THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR THROUGH LUNCH AND LEARN PRESENTATIONS, HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH EVENTS, CORPORATE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS, WEBINARS, AND ONE TO ONE INDIVIDUAL COACHING SESSIONS. IN ADDITION, HISPA ENGAGED OTHER VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PUBLIC SPEECHES, CORPORATE AND ACADEMIA PRESENTATIONS, MEDIA PUBLICATIONS, INTERNET CAMPAIGNS AND NEWSLETTERS.
