Neighborhood leadership academy (nla) change takes place in communities when residents take responsibility for and participate in their own initiatives for positive change. However, certain skills are necessary for those initiatives to be successful. Five years ago, laa established the neighborhood leadership academy (nla) to address this need for a skill-based leadership program. Nla is targeted to current and emerging grassroots leaders in neighborhoods throughout anne arundel county, providing residents of anne arundel county communities with skill-based leadership training. Nla helps participants become adept in leadership roles by focusing on improving skills such as effective communications and building consensus. It is the only program of its kind in the state of maryland.

Activity 3

The executive leadership series (els) provides senior-level executives and their spouses or partners with an issues-oriented overview of anne arundel countys challenges, people, processes and resources. The goal of the els program is to enhance community leaders awareness and knowledge of issues that impact our county and entire region. One of the programs primary benefits is to meet and establish or enhance relationships between top business, government and community leaders. The els program provides a comprehensive overview and a working knowledge of anne arundel county in four intensive sessions, during which participants learn about the countys resources and gain access to decision makers. The program provides executives with a condensed and thorough overview of issues affecting the short- and long-term well being of anne arundel county and the region.
