“From june 9, 2022, to july 22, 2022, java and the japanese information and culture center sponsored a photo exhibit, the go for broke spirit, featuring images of japanese american veterans who served during world war ii by shane sato, a photographer based in los angeles, ca. Sato's images of aged veterans in uniform with descriptive placards told the story of the nisei soldiers, many of whom were unjustly imprisoned in wartime incarceration camps when they volunteered to fight. The exhibit was free and open to the public. Additionally, a book talk by sato as well as a film screening was held while the images were on view.”
