Safe Kids partnered with FedEx in 2000 to create the Walk This Way program to bring global, national and local attention to pedestrian safety issues. What started as a pilot project in three U.S. cities has now grown to more than 225 cities in the United States and in nine additional countries around the world. Since the Walk This Way program launched, the number of child pedestrian fatalities has decreased by 32 percent in the United States. In 2013, Walk This Way reached more than two million children in nearly 4,000 schools around the world. See Schedule O.

Activity 3

Seventeen years ago, Safe Kids partnered with General Motors and the General Motors Foundation to create the Buckle Up program, a multifaceted national initiative to keep children and families safe in and around cars. The Buckle Up program has grown into the most comprehensive child passenger safety program in the nation. In 1997, when the program started, almost 1,000 children under the age of eight died in car crashes. By 2012, that number was cut in half. To date, more than 22.5 million people have been exposed to Buckle Up events and community outreach efforts. See Schedule O.
