Since mentors, incs inception in 1987, with our history of research-based best-practices mentoring through recruiting, matching, and supporting mentoring pairs, the program has expanded access and opportunity for over 4,000 disadvantaged youths by matching them with caring adults mentors. Today, we are the only open-enrollment citywide, one-on-one mentroing program for youth enrolled in d.c. Public and charter high schools. At least 90 of our 12th graders graduate compared to less than 60 of their peers at least 85 enroll in postsecondary education copmared to less than 20 of their peers we recruit students directly through classrooms or from social service agency or parent referrals we recurit volunteer mentors through corporations, other employers with strong cultures of of philanthropy and volunteerism, or previous mentor referrals and we enrich teen mentoring with year-long workshops and experiences related to colleg, career, and personal development. Represents the corpus of contributions, which is to be maintained in perpetuity and the earnings restricted for the purpose of funding scholarships, the organization can use up to 50,000 of the funds on a temporary basis, wherby the borrowed amount must be repaid within twelve months

The organization recoginzes any potential financial statement impact of a tax position when it is more likely than not that the position will not be sustained upon examination as required by the accounting for unceartainty in income taxes topic of the fasb accounting standards codification. The organization does not believe it has any uncertain tax positions and the financial statements do not have any unrecognized tax benefits or liabilities that need to be recorded.
